Reading this essay was like reading a reflection of my own life. Where do I even begin…
The amount of times I’ve doubted myself, like you, is indescribable, asking myself “how can you be a writer/dancer/painter/singer etc. when you don’t do it like a pro?” But then I ask myself “what is a pro, anyway?”
Dancing is one of the ways to unleash what my soul has to say too.
I think it’s easy for us to forget that the very fact we do all these acts means that we belong to those labels. I don’t like using labels either, but if someone does something, eg. write, they’re a writer. And that’s all there is to it. Society has made it seem like we need to be experts in everything we do… but really, doing something is what makes us an expert, so to speak.
I have also gone through those phases in my adolescent years, with almost no friends and feeling lonely… Isolated… Alienated… Different…
If only I’d known that being different is a blessing. You’re a beautiful soul and I can tell that, Chantell. And you’re right, self love and having fun is key. Everything else falls into place after that.
P.S. That dance video was breathtaking. Thank you for sharing a piece of your world with us. ❤️
